3月21日晚，中国男足没能在新加坡带走3分，2比2平局的结果使得中国队在小组积分上仅仅只拿到了1分，不仅如此，中国队在国际足联的技术积分再一次被扣分。因为这场平局，中国队在国际足联的技术积分又丢掉了5.64分，技术积分已经下跌至1268.14分。目前，排名亚洲第10位的约旦队已经达到了1346.94分，甩开中国队将近80分，中国队与排名靠前的队伍之间积分差距进一步被拉大。

中国队在今年初的卡塔尔亚洲杯上三战不胜小组出局，导致在国际足联技术积分排名方面下滑幅度较快，技术积分也从原来的1299.49分下滑至1273.78分，排名从世界第79位亚洲第11位，下降至最新的世界第88位亚洲第13位。

在3月21日晚2比2战平新加坡队之后，中国队又丢掉了5.64分，技术积分已经下跌至1268.14分，而新加坡队则相应地获得了5.64分。

虽然中国队在国际足联排名和亚洲排名都没有变化，依然还是世界第88位、亚洲排名第13位，但中国队与身前队伍间的技术积分在进一步拉开。

排在中国队之前的巴林队(亚洲第12位)、阿曼队(亚洲第11位)在本轮世预赛中全部都战胜了各自的对手，所以都获得了相应的技术积分。巴林队已经达到了1302.48分，而阿曼队则是达到了1315.62分。

中国队目前与巴林队的技术积分已经相差34.34分，而排名亚洲第10位的约旦队本轮也同样取胜，他们的技术积分已经达到了1346.94分，甩开中国队将近80分。这就意味着短期之内中国队跻身亚洲前十位的希望已经不大。

3月26日，世预赛36强赛小组赛将展开第四轮角逐，中国队将在天津主场迎战新加坡队。中国队只有取胜，才能继续保留小组竞争出线的机会，同时也才能够获得国际足联排名所需要的技术积分。

在目前的C组积分榜上，泰国队积4分，和中国队一样，但净胜球为1个、中国队则是-2个，落后泰国队3球。

按赛事规则，小组前两名才能晋级下一轮18强赛，如果积分相同，则要看净胜球。而小组赛末轮，泰国队主场对阵新加坡队，中国队则是在末轮客场出战韩国队。如果在末轮之前，中国队在积分方面无法甩开泰国队，则中国队将处于异常艰难的境地。因此，中国队在主场天津对阵新加坡队的比赛时，不只是要3分，更需要考虑争取尽可能多地进球。

中国队上一次在世预赛首轮出局，还是在1993年，此后最差也能进第2轮。此前4届世预赛，中国队是都打到了最后第三轮的12强赛。
